The Gabby Callahan Fund

Dear Family and Friends,

Let me tell you about one of our dearest co-workers Megan Callahan. She is a very hard working single mother of two beautiful children. She does everything she can to better her life for herself and her children. She is currently in school full time in the Respiratory Program while also working a part time job at Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, MA)  and more importantly, working as a full time mother and father.

Her son Brandon is a 12 year old all-star basketball player. He’s been playing and had a love for the game ever since he could learn to dribble a ball. He plays basketball all year round, and all over the United States. Because he plays all year, he plays for a traveling team which can become costly very quickly.

Her daughter Gabriella is a 19 year old with one of the brightest souls. She has always been a natural care taker. Always looking out for her mother and trying to protect her from whatever gets in their way. She also looks out for her little brother. She is his biggest fan, going to all his games and screaming the loudest from the bleachers. She will always love and protect him no matter what. Over the last year Gabby was caring for an elderly woman who just recently passed. The loss of her client affected her in a way she didn’t know was possible. Because of this, she came to the conclusion that she loves caring for the elderly and wants to continue this kind of work.

Unfortunately, Gabby was involved in a tragic accident on Tuesday August 29, 2018 during broad daylight. While in New York with some friends, she was shot multiple times and left alone on the street bleeding out. Thinking that she wasn’t going to make it, she called her mom to say goodbye. She told her how much she loves her in case this was the last time she would talk to her. Thankfully, amazing bystanders saw that she was in trouble and didn’t hesitate. A couple rushed her to the nearest hospital, but because her wounds were so extensive, she was then rushed to a further hospital with more resources to better care for her.

On Tuesday, Megan got that call that every parent dreads to receive. She was told her daughter was in the hospital and hurt badly. Megan dropped everything and went straight for the hospital not knowing in what condition she would find her daughter.

Megan is currently out of school, out of work, and away from her son. She is in New York with her daughter trying to get the best care possible. With the expense of rushing to New York, moving into a hotel, and caring for her daughters medical needs from a mothers perspective, we started this GoFundMe page to help Megan with some of those costs.  Every dollar counts. Please donate what you can. If you can’t, please share this page with everyone you know. Let’s help Megan and her family get through this tough time without having to worry about the financial aspect.
