These are strange times, indeed. It is easy to feel powerless right now. And disconnected. We must all do our part to #flattenthecurve in Dallas and stay home.
But we still need connection. And community.
That is why I am taking part in The Front Steps Project, started by a photographer in the Northeast, as a way to bring families together (digitally) in support of our community. I will be taking 5-minute portraits of families in Dallas on the front steps of their homes (from a responsible distance) and posting these images on Instagram using the hashtag #TheFrontStepsProject. This project has been growing across the nation, and I am happy to bring it to our community in Dallas.
After your quick session, I will email you the digital file of your portrait. In exchange, I'm asking you to make a good-faith donation to North Texas Food Bank, a vital relief organization during this time of uncertainty for many. As COVID-19 continues to impact our lives and economy, many families will find it more and more difficult to get access to healthy foods.
No child should go hungry. No parent should struggle to feed their children.
Suggested donation is $50 but any amount will help make an impact.

The North Texas Food Bank provides over 60,000 boxes of food across 13 counties weekly and expects the need for food assistance to grow in the coming weeks and months.

My name is Julia Newman and I am an NYC-based photographer who just moved with our family to Dallas in early March. This is a photograph of my family in front of our home. Never would I have thought that this is how we would become involved in the local community but here we are. As a mother, I understand the importance of a village and hope this fundraising effort will provide some relief to struggling families who have been physically cut off from their village as an effect of COVID-19.
