Help the local community of young people in recovery by contributing to Freedom Club's fundraising campaign.
Freedom Club, Inc. is a 501 c-3 non-profit organization with the express purpose of providing a safe and sober environment in which 12-step meetings can be held. The clubhouse, located at 47 N. Fairground St - near the Marietta Square, is home to a variety of 12-Step groups, including; Alcoholics Anonymous, Heroin Anonymous, and Crystal Meth Anonymous.
The organization was founded 17 years ago by young people in recovery for young people in recovery and remains one of the most popular meeting places for young adults who are trying to get sober in the metro-Atlanta area. Rent is paid, ultimately, by the voluntary contributions of meeting attendees, who are primarily young adults just beginning their journey into recovery. As such, many of these people are not in a financial position to contribute much, if at all.
The Freedom Club Board, composed of volunteers who have been helped by the meetings there, has decided to reach out to individuals for the sake of Freedom Club's longevity. With rising rent and a new lease agreement, our goal is $7,800 in order to keep our doors open for another year. That's where you come in!
A personal story from a Freedom Club member...
It started at 12 years old - my first diagnosis and psychiatric treatment began. 2 years later, I made my first trip to Ridgeview. 4 years after that, I began my journey into the world of heroin/opiate addiction. Over 10 years, 30 combinations of psychiatric meds, several rounds of electroconvulsive therapy, and 7 treatment centers later, I made my way into my first meeting at Freedom Club. It was here that I found a solution to a problem that my parents, the doctors, and my friends could never quite fix or understand - a problem that previously could only be subdued by a constant ingestion of drugs and alcohol. I am now approaching 4 years of sobriety, I've graduated from college, and I'm able to support myself. Most of all, I'm able to be a happy and useful member of my family and of society. I still take anti-depressants, see a psychiatrist, and speak with a counselor. But without the new way of life that I continue to learn from the loving people at Freedom Club, I know that I could never live sober the way I am able to today.
I know that there are many stories just like mine from people who have been introduced to a solution for their problem by the meetings at Freedom Club.
