<div>On December 3rd our apartment caught on fire and in a matter of minutes me and my partner lost our entire world. We escaped with nothing but the clothes on our backs. Two of the pets in our home did not survive, and losing them shattered us because they were loved by all of us and brought warmth and comfort to our home every single day. Our roommates will share their own pages because they deserve their own space to tell their story, but right now I need to speak for me and my partner as we try to stand up from the hardest moment of our lives. We are sharing footage below of the aftermath so you can see the destruction we walked back into and understand the reality we are facing. We are responsible and hard-working people. We still have our jobs, but nothing prepares you for starting over with absolutely nothing in a city as expensive as New York. Rent here is overwhelming even for people with stability, and we lost everything we saved including the little cash we were holding onto and the important documents and memories that made our life ours. Our families help how they can, but we were trying so hard to stay independent and not place our struggle on their shoulders. Asking for help is something I never imagined doing, but when you lose everything overnight you realize there is no shame in needing others to lift you. We are asking for support so we can eventually afford a place to live again and begin rebuilding our lives from the ground up. Anything you can give, even a share or a prayer, truly means more than you will ever know. Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and for understanding what it takes to recover from a loss like this.

<div>El 3 de diciembre nuestro apartamento se incendió y en cuestión de minutos mi pareja y yo perdimos todo nuestro mundo. Solo pudimos salir con la ropa que llevábamos puesta. Dos de las mascotas de nuestro hogar no sobrevivieron y esa pérdida nos destrozó, porque eran queridas por todos y llenaban nuestra casa de cariño y consuelo cada día. Nuestros compañeros de apartamento harán sus propias páginas porque merecen su propio espacio para contar su historia, pero en este momento necesito hablar por mí y por mi pareja mientras intentamos levantarnos del momento más duro de nuestras vidas. Estamos compartiendo videos del después para que puedan ver la destrucción a la que regresamos y entender la realidad a la que nos estamos enfrentando. Somos personas responsables y trabajadoras. Todavía tenemos nuestros empleos, gracias a Dios, pero nada te prepara para empezar desde cero en una ciudad tan cara como Nueva York. La renta aquí es abrumadora incluso para quienes tienen estabilidad, y perdimos todos nuestros ahorros, incluyendo el dinero que habíamos guardado y los documentos importantes y recuerdos que representaban nuestra vida.
