The Fight of Younger Onset Dementia

Donation protected
On the 23/12/2015 at the age of 53, our mum was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimers Dementia. But for most of our lives we had noticed something not so right with our mum. We think that she started showing symptoms of it at around the year of 2009. As we were so young we never really thought much of it or even understood it. But as the years went on, It came to a point where it was getting so bad that we all had a chat together with dad and said we need to do something about this, because we all know it's not right.

We then went through the tough stages of getting mum tested, MRI's, written tests etc. You can imagine how hard it would be to get her to go accept the fact that we want her to be tested, with her thinking we all think something's wrong with her.

After months and months of testing she was then diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. It is the hardest thing to deal with as a family, the mood swings that happen and the also the odd things she does. It causes a whole heap of stress in the house hold and actually causes a lot of fights to happen between us all. No one will understand actually how hard it is unless you've experienced it.

For the past 3 years, Hollie, my sister has been mums carer. She is now 19 and has given up school, studying and any job opportunies that she may come across to look after mum. As a family, we all put in money together to give her some sort of pay. Obviously we cant give her much as we all have our own bills etc to pay for.
But she has come to a stage where caring for mum is just too much now, mum is at a point where she cannot shower herself, dress herself, or do any of the every day activities most people do. Hollie also needs to start looking into her future and start working/studying.

We have looked into proper caring and putting her into a home, but the costs are an absolute ridiculous amount (around $800-$1000 a week).  But it has come to a stage where we have no choice but to go ahead with this. My dad will be left out of pocket every week, aswell as my brother and myself. The last thing i want to do is ask for money but any donations will go towards these payments every week and the huge deposit we have to put down to enter her into a home.

Many thanks in advance,
Regards, the Pinder family
