Egypt has lost one of its' most brilliant and extremely talented artists and sculptors in its' modern day history. Professor Basem Fadel worked as the Head/Director of the Central Department for the Beautification of New Cities in Egypt. He was also a Professor of sculpture, art history, drawing, and the foundations of design at the Faculty of Fine Arts - Luxor University. His work expanded from the south of Egypt to the North, reaching every single new city in Egypt since 1985.
Humanity has lost the most gentle, poetic, spiritual, and most generous human being I have ever met in my life. My Brother Basem's last words to me were "Thank God for everything," and "Thank you for everything you have done for me."
My older brother, Basem, was my North Star, and I always looked up to him! I wanted to be him! Just like Basem said, our family likes to THANK GOD for everything that he brings our way, and we would also like to thank all of you for your generous support to our family during this very difficult time.
The holy Quran in surah "Luqman" Ayah #34: "Only God has the knowledge of the Hour. He sends rain from the heavens, and knows what is in the mothers' wombs. No one knows what he will do on the morrow; no one knows in what land he will die. Surely God knows and is cognisant."
My Brother, Basem, designed, commissioned, and built this sculpture below in 2017, and dedicated the sculpture and the design to every human being wrongfully detained, convicted, or jailed all over the world, and hoped that this sculpture/project would inspire people with a glimpse of hope, and that one day freedom will be near!
