The Eva McCall Memorial Scholarship

Donation protected
The Eva McCall Memorial Scholarsip will be an endowed scholarship at Southwestern Community College in Sylva for students who are degree-seeking and are authors or aspiring authors.  The scholarship will be administered through the SCC Foundation Office.  The Foundation is a bona fide 501 (c) (3) as defined by the IRS.  $15,000 is the amount needed for the endowment to be created, and $500 will be awarded to a selected recipient each year.  The additional $500 requested will allow the SCC Foundation to make an immediate award for the 2018-2019 year.  Any additional funds raised will go into the endowment, so additional funds can be awarded at a later date.

Until the money is raised, all book profits made by Eva's books will be donated towards the endowment.  Click here to purchase Eva's books.

Memo: Eva McCall Memorial Scholarship

The first $2,500 in donations will be matched by a private donor.

Eva McCall is the author of the popular Edge of Heaven, Children of the Mountain, Lucy's Recipe for Mountain Living, Murder on Haint Branch and Button Box books. Eva was a native of Franklin North Carolina, spending her childhood with the grandmother that she portrayed in her books, Lucy Davenport Carpenter. She graduated from Franklin High School, and attended Pfeiffer College.

After marrying her husband, George McCall, they moved to Michigan where George worked for General Motors, and Eva became a beautician. Eva began taking writing classes at Oakland University and Mott Community College, where she then was a member of several professional writing groups.

Since the release of her earlier books, which have sold thousands of copies, many fans awaited the release of "Murder on Haint Branch", which Eva said was the most fun writing. In early 2014, Eva published "Button Box", a Civil War novel that was written over a decade ago.

Eva passed away on November 20, 2017, but her memory continues to live in spirit and through her stories.
