The Ehumah Family Transition to the U.S.A.

Friends-

Many of you had the good fortune to meet Julius Ehumah during your time with Peace Corps Ghana or through study abroad travel. Julius was a driver for Peace Corps and served in ways so much bigger than that—guide, translator, problem-solver, counselor, confidant, colleague, and friend.

Julius and his wife, Ama, have four children ranging in age from 23-13. Stephen and Gala, the two eldest children are in the US now—Stephen graduated from college in May and is pursuing computer programming/developer jobs and Gala will begin her junior year of college in the fall. They are fantastic young people and many of you have supported their education through prior gifts. We are all tremendously grateful and I promise you’d be proud!

Given Julius’s long tenure with Peace Corps, he, Ama, and the three kids who are not yet 21 (Gala, Donald, and Curtis) are eligible to immigrate to the US. Julius has been working to access this opportunity for some time, convinced that it will provide a better life for his children--especially Donald who was born deaf. Much to his excitement, they recently learned that things are in motion. The family will arrive in the US in the fall.

So, I’m writing to invite you to help as they settle into life in the US and its many complexities. Julius is eager to find work in the Chicagoland and we welcome any leads for him or for Ama. As they prepare for this transition, they could also use our monetary support. They will need flights to the US, a car, lodging, and the other necessities required to establish a life in a new country.

Those of you who know Julius and Ama well know that they have spent their lives providing radical hospitality to others and making decisions and sacrifices to benefit others, especially their children. It’s our turn to pitch in and help them. I invite you to join us in contributing through this GoFundMe. If you prefer to contribute in other ways, please reach out to Joseph or me and we're glad to provide alternatives.
