Saint Nicholas Dog Run
VOLUNTEERS maintain the Saint Nicholas Dog Run. You've probably met us! We're dog owners just like you, and we fund our own efforts to keep the run clean and updated. We're continuously striving to make the run a better, safer, and more enjoyable space for all who use it. For this reason, we will be holding this fundraising effort indefinitely to help with the following:
• Replace "temporary" fencing put up in 2007 — the Parks Department promised to provide permanent fencing, but it's been 14 years.
The fencing around our dog run has become increasingly ineffective as natural erosion has taken over the space, making it too precarious
for some of our community to visit. We want to purchase and install a more stable fence -- similar to the section on the north end of the run -- that will allow debris to pass underneath so build up won't occur.
• Improve the landscape — admit it: you've slipped at the top of the run before. Updating the landscape will help to minimize runoff and erosion while making the dog run more accessible for humans no matter what the weather or time of year.
• Host Coffee Barks and other socials — these ongoing events (weather permitting) bring the dog community together to enjoy free refreshments while connecting with other dog owners.
• Cleanups — four times a year we ask our community to volunteer their time and do maintenance on the dog run. We thank those who
give their time by providing refreshments like coffee, donuts, and water.
• Abandoned dogs – Unfortunately, some people leave their dogs at the run with no intention of coming back. When this happens, we do
everything we can to make sure they have the best chance at ending up at a 'NO KILL' shelter. Sometimes we need to pay for
transportation, food, and temporary housing.
PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING the dogs, the run, and our volunteer efforts with whatever you can give. The Saint Nicholas Dog Run is only as nice as the community makes it. We will continue to expand our efforts to make our run as enjoyable and safe as possible for all to
enjoy!
