We have reached our initial target and can't thank everyone enough for donating, we really do appreciate it! However, we have come to realise that Destiny is really struggling to afford their rent for the next six months that should have been paid last month. If not paid, Destiny will not exist. Although one of our main goals was to create a sensory room and provide livestock and food sources, we really want to help them with their longterm goal to keep Destiny alive through livestock/farming. Every donation counts no matter how small. Thank you again!!
Destiny Foundation (DEFO) is one of only a handful of the orphanages, schools and rehabilitation centers that specialize in childrens’ special needs in Tanzania.
Located in Arusha, the Foundation gives children who have special needs and/or disabilities the option to attend school, live-in full time, part time or receive treatment via its homevisit programme, catering to those families and children who are unable to travel the distance to the Foundation.
DEFO offers a flexible and versatile combination of services but still faces many challenges for development and growth. There is a lack of knowledge regarding special educational needs in Tanzania, and as a result, investors are hesitant to contribute to the cause and few parents know to bring their children to DEFO. This lack of knowledge also applies to staff, and combined with a lack of equipment/resources and financial difficulties prevents DEFO from reaching its full potential for the children.
We want to provide the children with an opportunity to learn how to plant/harvest produce and raise livestock to help them with independence. We also want to provide them with a reliable source of food (banana tree and rice).
Secondly, we hope to create a sensory room, with equipment like soft mats, bean bags, balls, lights and more. Sensory stimulation is really beneficial and this room with new equipment would become an amazing new strategy for DEFO.
Staff are incredibly committed and work voluntary. The children are full of happiness and energy. Every donation counts, and we’re counting on you to help us make a difference in the lives of the beautiful children of the DEFO foundation.
