The DeRossett Family

Donation protected
February 12th, 2018 began as any other normal day for the DeRossett Family.  After going through their daily life, they sat down for a quiet uneventful dinner. It was at their home that Michelle DeRossett, would begin to have a feeling, a pain, in her chest that would lead her family down a long road.

Michelle called 911 and an ambulance responded to her home. She was found to be in a potentially lethal heart rhythm known as V-Tach. She was aggressively treated by the paramedics, and was transported to the closest hospital without any issues. Once at the hospital, she began to develop pulmonary edema which was atypical for a 31 year old. After being placed on Bipap, and being stabilized she was transferred to specialty care facility for further and advanced treatment.

It was at Greenville Memorial Hospital they found that Michelle has a condition known as left sided hypertrophy, or a very enlarged heart. However, she seemed to be doing much better than before with the treatments that the cardiologist has been performing.

It was early Wednesday morning when this family was given the largest shock of their lives. Michelle woke otherwise normal, but later she told her husband, Kevin,  that she was now having pains in her chest. Within seconds she arrested in front of his eyes. The cardiac teams quickly revived her following numerous defibrillations. It was at determined that sedating her, intubating, and getting a biopsy of her heart was the next coarse of action needed.  The results of the biopsy would only continue to help the skilled team of physicians and specialists  determine what could be the cause of all of this.

After returning from the procedure, she sustained a very low blood pressure, despite being removed from any sedatives. Her now very weak heart was unable to pump her blood to her kidneys to be cleaned and removed the sedative. This was believed to be causing the very low BP. It was not shortly after this that Michelle went back into V-tach and arrested again. I walked helplessly while her husband once again look into a room of people, not sure what the status of his wife would be. She once again was revived after a single defibrillation. Her heart was responding well to the aggressive treatment, but had become increasingly tired. Kevin was advised that ECMO, was the only option as that time to keep Michelle alive. ECMO is a machine that pumps the blood for the heart, allowing it to rest and potentially strengthen.

At around 4:00 yesterday evening Kevin, and his surrounding family, were advised that every possible option had been done at the present hospital, and that they were now going to transport her to an out of state specialized facility for continued treatment, and potentially a heart transplant.

This account is being set up for a number of reasons. The first is that this could not be happening to a sweeter family. I personally have known Kevin for over 10 years, and can say that this is destroying him, as it would any husband. They also have four children, one of which is just two months old. The funds will be to ensure that they can continue to be there with Michelle in any and every manner. Whether it be food, shelter, provisions, or to help offset any of the various medical bills they haven't event had a thought about.  Kevin is currently taking time off of work to be with his wife for however long this journey will take. The funds will be used immediately and made available to the DeRossett Family as they are donated.

It is important to support Michlle, Kevin and their family in any way possible. Above anything monetary, we would also ask you to PRAY. There are countless verses in the Bible that speak to the power of prayer, 1 John 5 comes to mind, reaffirming us as believers that whatever we ask in accordance with His will, will be heard. Please let this family be in your prayers today, tonight, and for the future.
