UPDATE: Community support has been unbelievable and we've reached our initial goal. Because, amazingly, the goal was reached in just over a day, we've raised it in order to help Nicole and Asher even more.

Nicole and Kenneth Dean had been praying for a baby and going through fertility treatments for years. After many disappointments, they began looking into adoption and were recently thrilled to be matched with a birth mom. On August 7th, precious Asher Michael Dean was born and Nicole and Kenneth were ecstatic new parents.
It was quickly discovered, however, that Asher needed open heart surgery to fix an arterial issue. Nicole, Kenneth and Asher were sent to the ICU at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where Asher would wait to become stronger and have surgery within the next few weeks.
On August 20th, Kenneth drove back to New Braunfels to get some work done at his company (NB Pest Control) while waiting to hear on Asher’s surgery date. That night, a debilitating headache prompted him to contact his in-laws, who quickly took him to the ER. After tests and an MRI, he was transferred to the ICU at St. Luke’s in San Antonio with possible bacterial meningitis.
In ICU, Kenneth’s symptoms rapidly escalated. Nicole and other family members quickly traveled from the hospital in Houston to St. Luke’s in San Antonio. Despite efforts from the hospital staff, Kenneth passed away of meningitis on August 23.
