The Daniel Fleming Foundation

Donation protected

My son Daniel Fleming took his own life on Monday 18th November 2019 by
jumping from the Liverpool Mersey
Tunnel Bridge, after suffering with his
mental health for just over 12 months
prior to this and after many attempts of
taking his life leading up to this sad day
Dan was pronounced dead at 08:01am in Arrow Park Hospital aged 19.

Dan’s death effected so many people
across the Wirral and Merseyside not
only devastating his family but the
devastation it left through many of Dans friends too.  This has been such a hard
and sad time for us all, but as Dans Mum
and being Dans only voice now I feel it is my duty to turn this tragedy into
something positive and doing it in his
name.

In 2018 in the UK there were 6507
suicides as published by the Samaritans.

The impact that suicide has when a
family member takes there own lives
brings many sensitive and stressful
challenges, things you have to plan,
discuss and agree on are conversations
you would never of dreamt of having
about that person who you know you will never see again. One being financial and how will we pay for the funeral and a
question of - will I get support, will I cope
through all this - it’s scary time for all the
family.

To date, as a family since loosing Dan we have never been offered support from
an agency no referrals where ever made, no liaison officer called upon us to see if we needed counselling, apart from the
legalities from Merseyside Police, the
Corona and Dans psychiatrist not one
professional followed up how we
where coping for our loss of our son and brother.

This brings me here today to ask for your help and support to help me to raise
enough to get The Daniel Fleming
Foundation up and running as soon as we can to begin to support the community.

To become a registered charity I need
to raise the first £5000 before I can
apply to do this!

My aims for Dans charity is to financially support as many families across the UK with funeral costs that have lost a family loved one to suicide, my aim is to
also refer these families to agencies
that will support them through this
process of planning and arranging the
funeral. The aim is to be the first
supporting gatepost to these families but we will also be a follow up service to
support the family after the funeral
making sure that no one slips through
the net. It will be a support service that
not only financially help with the funeral costs but we will offer any support for
the first 12 months to help allow the
family to grieve and hopefully ease the
day to day pressure of life with the
correct support network around them.

Naturally we would normally be able to
have a charity evening, race nights etc
but due to the current COVID-19
situation we sadly can’t do this as we all
need to stay safe and follow government
guidance.

So this is mine and Dans way of
reaching out to get this ball rolling - get
some money in the pot and start
supporting these families in their grief.

On average of 18 people commit suicide everyday of the year, that’s 18 lots of
families coping with this trauma.

Thank you for taking the time to read
this.....I know our Dan will be smiling
down on you all......you all did him proud
