The Dakota Fund

Dakota is a very special pup that was adopted from Mbwa Wa Africa Animal Rescue in Tanzania by Heather Haines.    While on work travel, Heather met Dakota, a remarkable girl that didn't let a little setback like paralysis in her back legs stop her from enjoying life.   Within a few short months, this Tanzanian street pup was boarding a transatlantic flight to a new life in the U.S. where she joined the rest of her forever family:  a doting dad and two (less enthusiastic) brothers who didn't know what to make of this spunky pup that could outrun them to the dinner bowl or outpace them on their daily walks in her snazzy set of custom canine wheels.   

Dakota was recently diagnosed with heartworms, and made it through the invasive and difficult treatment like the little powerhouse she is.   She has unending love for her two favorite humans and those two reluctant brothers that are finally warming up to her.  

Now, this scrappy little Tanzanian warrior needs our help.   She has a severe bacterial infection and is suffering through swollen limbs, high fever, and enlarged internal organs, and is under 24-hour veterinarian care while the specialists work to save her life.  

Most of us have been on the receiving end of Heather's generous and giving spirit at one time or another.  This account has been created to help sweet Dakota so she can get the specialist care she needs to regain her health and return to the family that loves her so much.   #TeamDakota
