The Daily Free Press - Newspaper Week Fundraiser

Tax deductible
The past year has been a big one for The Daily Free Press, Boston University’s only independent student newspaper. Since moving into a new office on Commonwealth Avenue last September, we’ve expanded our social media presence with a more dynamic Snapchat Discover edition, established a dedicated podcasting team and continued our outstanding reporting, which earned us the title of 2019 New England College Newspaper of the Year.

But as we’ve continued to grow, so has the cost of sustaining a news organization. Last year, after much deliberation, we made the difficult decision to limit our printing to solely issues that we are able to secure ads. While we do our best to find advertisements every week, sometimes it simply doesn’t work out, and in those cases, it unfortunately doesn’t make financial sense for us to print our beloved newspaper.

Additionally, we were forced to switch printers earlier this year, which means that we now need to find and pay an independent distributor to ensure that our print copies find their way to our readers throughout BU’s campus.

All of this means that the financial support of our community is more important than ever. This week, in honor of National Newspaper Week (Oct. 6 – 12), we’re asking you to chip in whatever you can to keep us going. We’re hoping to raise $3,000, which will provide us with just enough to ensure our financial security for the foreseeable future.

With your help, we’ll be able to fund our day-to-day operations without having to hold back on providing meaningful opportunities for learning and networking to our tight-knit community of student journalists. We’re planning our third annual “The Next Edition” student journalism conference for February, and we have big plans in store for the spring, which will mark the FreeP’s 50th anniversary.

Please contribute what you can to help make our paper the best paper it can be and continue for 50 more years.

We appreciate your support, and look forward to providing more great content in the coming months.

Thank you!
