We need your help in rallying around the OestreicherFamily. Jeff was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that has spread to the peritoneal lining of his stomach. This 45-year old is a Dad to Ella (9 years old) and Brooke(7 years old) and a husband to Carey-Ann.
Seven years ago, Carey-Ann suffered a brain injury. Although, she continues to improve with each passing year, she still is on her healing journey and in rehabilitation. As such, prior to Jeff being diagnosed, he was the primary care giver to Ella and Brooke. He was the one making all the meals, packing school lunches for the girls and running them to and from their activities. Jeff’s cancer diagnosis has been a heavy blow to this family.
In addition to Jeff’s chemotherapy treatment plan, he is participating in alternative cancer treatments costing the family thousands of dollars out-of-pocket each month.
The family is determined not to give up on helping Jeff survive. After Jeff was rejected for a surgery in Calgary to help prolong his life, the family has put in a referral to a hospital in the United States for him to seek treatment and medical help with costs not currently covered by Ontario’s healthcare system. Also, Jeff’s oncologist has spoken to him about the option of the participating in a clinical trial in the United States. This could be Jeff's best bet for complete cure. The cost to the family of participating in this trial is around $300,000 out-of-pocket.
The family is at a crossroads in its journey to continue to provide Jeff with the medical care he needs to give him a shot at prolonged life, and hopefully, survival. Jeff, Carey-Ann, Ella and Brooke need your assistance as they go through this extremely tough journey. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.
