The Casey Guillory Story

Donation protected
In April of 2019 our family received the terrible news that Casey had a serious medical injury. Our family was aware that he was in the hospital but due to a decision made by Casey to keep himself as a private patient,  we would not know about the tragic incident until almost a week and a half later. We are not sure if he was concerned for his safety.

During his hospital stay Casey suffered an Anoxic Brain Injury. An
Anoxic brain injury occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen. Left without oxygen for too long, neural cells begin to die through a process called apoptosis.

As a result Casey was on life support for over a week. We thought we were going to lose him. The past  6 months have been full of ups and downs.

I am happy to say that today my brother is alive.
Since the incident he has been in two different hospitals that were specific to brain injury rehabilitation. He has regained lots of physical abilities but his mental state has been diagnosed as injured. He is incapable of caring for himself and needs to continue his care in the neurological facility that he is currently residing.

Our family is being faced with some hard decisions. Medicaid is currently declining to continue to fund his inpatient care.  If discharged our family would be completely responsible for his daily care.
In the best interest of Casey he needs to stay in a facility in order to have the proper physical care and neurological rehabilitation. The most improvement for a brain injury occurs in the first year and he is only half way there.

I'm asking for help today because we need funds to help maintain continued care for Casey.  We have appealed Medicaid but by the end of the month Casey could possibly be discharged to his family.
I would like to remain transparent through this process.

I am Charlotte, his older sister. I am filing to be his guardian and will be taking care of his decisions going forward, including all of the funds raised for him. I want you to know where your money is going. I will be posting updates and photos so you can follow Casey's journey to healing.
