<div>Born in Gourock in 1864,<strong> Captain Charlie Barr </strong>achieved international renown through <strong>three consecutive America’s Cup victories</strong> in 1899, 1901 and 1903, and through setting a <strong>transatlantic</strong> <strong>record </strong>aboard the schooner Atlantic in 1905 that lasted for <strong>100 years!</strong> [official monohull race record]

<div><strong>Planning permission has already been granted</strong> for the monument in a prominent seafront location in the centre of Barr's home town of Gourock. A stunning backdrop is provided by beautiful views across the deep blue waters of The Clyde and the mountains of The Scottish Highlands beyond.

<div>The project is being led by Barr's descendant Alasdair Purves.

<div>A leading sculptor will create the bronze figure and specialist stonemasons have been appointed for the pedestal. The design draws on neoclassical and Edwardian influences, ensuring a timeless quality that reflects the Gilded Age in which Barr lived, while standing comfortably within its surroundings. Once the funding goal is reached, the project can move directly into production.
