UPDATE, 2/49 p.m., 5/5/18: Glenn, the dad, is in critical condition at the Westchester Burn Unit. He has 3rd degree burns in his lungs and is unable to communicate, a fractured shoulder, multiple contusions, and 2nd degree burns on his back and shoulders. His blood pressure is dangerously high, has an elevated temperature and an infection.

Lucas however, has been discharged from Albany Med.

Please keep Glenn, Marcus hospitalized in Boston, and the rest of the family  in your thoughts and prayers,

UPDATE 5/5/18: Mom Janet has been released from the hospital but dad Glenn is still in the burn unit in Westchester. Sweet Marcus  (pls note correction; his age was incorrectly noted as 10; he is 12) is still hospitalized in Boston. And little Lucas is still in Albany Med.

A dedicated Facebook page is up to provide updates and a central point of contact for status and donations:

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank everyone for the outpouring of support and generosity.

Friends, we've done amazing things in a very short span of time but the family's needs, particulary medical expenses, continue to mount. Additionally, the family is laying dear Eric to rest. Kindly share this link and if you can, give. Every little bit helps. Thank you.

UPDATE 5/3/18: New details have come to light about the Broadbent's circumstances: Janet, Glenn, 10 year old Marcus, and 6 year old Lucas are all hospitalized. Glenn was airlifted to the Westchester Burn Unit. Janet and 6 year old Lucas are in the ICU at Albany Med  suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.  Ten year old Marcus was transported to Shriner's Hospital in Boston. The medical costs alone will be staggering. According to National Association of Insurance Commissioners,
the average air ambulance trip is 52 miles and costs between $12,000 to $25,000 per flight.  Glenn's flight was 150 miles.

Glenn collapsed due to smoke inhalation trying to save their oldest son, Eric, who lived with Cerebral Palsy, intellectual disabilities, and was also blind.  Tragically, Eric did not survive the blaze.

Janet and Glenn are doing the Lord's work here on earth; their 10 children are all adopted. Six of the surviving children have serious health issues. You won't find more loving, genuine and caring people anywhere. I've known them for nearly 10 years and they are good, kind and decent. I'm in awe of Janet's strength and fortitude; the children are happy and engaging young people. To adopt one child with special needs is a huge commitment; 7 is incredible plus their 3 other wonderful young people.

All funds collected will be donated directly to the family to help with their considerable medical bills, Eric's funeral, and to restore their home.

On the evening of May 2, 2018, a tragic fire destroyed the home of our neighbor, Janet Broadbent, and her family. Janet and her husband have a large family  and several of their children are disabled. These are some of the kindest, most loving people you will meet. Any amount you care to give is greatly appreciated to help this family begin to rebuild their lives. Thank you.
