The Blessing of Being a Family

Donation protected
In the fall of 2013, we found out some of the most exciting news. We were pregnant with our first child! Plans began to be made, dreams of the life to come filled our hearts and minds. But in October of that same year, during a checkup with our OBGYN, we found out the embryo hadn’t developed fully and we had lost the pregnancy.

Over the next five years, we have walked many, many paths. We tried medicine combination after combination. We tried the process of IUI’s. Blood work panel after blood work panel drawn and processed, all pointing to questions with no answers, no reasons why, just the continued reassurance that we are healthy and biologically ready to be parents. Now that we are living in Seguin, we have found an amazing doctor who has walked us through a new adventure, IVF.

Scans and tests, alongside an exorbitant amount of personal costs-as insurance doesn’t see the IVF process as necessary-we we’re blessed with two healthy embryos. The first transfer went with textbook perfection. We began making plans for the future Baby B but our hearts were utterly broken when again, the embryo didn’t stick and the baby lost. A follow-up with our doctor confirmed we had indeed miscarried again. With one embryo left, we scheduled a final transfer from this round as oddly, the body is more apt to carry within three months of a miscarriage. This time though, our hearts were in a much different place. We knew the possibilities and were ready for whatever was to come.

We took time away to decrease stress, center our hearts and minds, and rejuvenate as a couple and a to-be growing family. Over the July 4th holiday, our final embryo was lost to a miscarriage and was confirmed by our doctor the following day. However, we found out that the embryo had split and we were still pregnant. A week later, on July 10th, tragedy again, befell our journey and we miscarried the twin. This meant that over the course of our pregnancy journey, we have lost six babies that never had the possibility of living into the dreams we’ve created for them. Words cannot describe the heartache, the pain, the frustration and anxiety that came with these final days.

We chose to live this journey in the open, amidst our congregation, open to the social media world, and in our community of friends. This has came with criticism, uncertainty, and a new focus on educating others about language, openness, and support. But an Easter dawn has begun to break. And now we come to you, our family, friends, fellow journeyers, prayer partners, and supporters.

We have been blessed to have a close family friend approach us and share that she would like to be our surrogate carrier. She has been a part of our journey and kept up with us through family, and wants to help us in a way we have only dreamt of. We have created this GoFund me page to help this next chapter begin and offset the expected $25,000 worth of expenses. We have financially exhausted everything we have, including savings and credit cards. This fundraising page, your love, and most certainly your prayers are what will make this next step happen. If you’re able and would like to contribute, please do. If you are not, please join the choir of voices who pray for all those families who walk the path of infertility. Your prayers are felt by all and please, let us say, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With much love,
Kristen & Marcus
