The Black Foster Youth Handbook

People have asked how they could help Ángela publish her book for young people and supportive adults in foster care on time (September 29,2020)....  So we created this ,The Black Foster Youth Handbook $$ fundraiser!  

Ángela , was placed into foster care as a teenager with her four younger siblings in Raleigh, North Carolina. After what seemed like a lifetime of transitions, she finally exited out of foster care. Unfortunately, the trauma and dire circumstances did not end there.  As a young adult, she experienced homelessness, domestic violence among other atrocities. During that time, Ángela still volunteered in her community and advocated for cultural competence, interdependence and an overall revolution of the foster care system. Having put her past behind her, Ángela is now happily married to an incredible human being, providing purpose coaching to young people and speaking at global events while leading a life she is truly proud of. 

In 2016, she approached some well-known child welfare organizations about the idea of a handbook for young people in foster care and was turned down by nearly a dozen of these organizations. As she continued to travel the country, speaking to legislators, congressional members and other current and former foster youth - she realized that this handbook was absolutely imperative to the survival and well-being of young people in foster care. 

Thus in February 2020, she began to compile her manuscript. She thought back to some of the most pivotal lessons she learned through navigating foster care, child hood trauma, unhealthy relationships, mental health challenges and overall life and began to organize it into this book.  Covid-19 hit our world and all she could think about was how young people in foster care were impacted thus she continued to write, then called up her sister. Together, they launched the Soulful Liberation Podcast  : Empowering foster youth by day and breaking generational curses by night.

In June of 2020, she completed the rough draft of her manuscript and began going through the editing phase.

And now, in August 2020 she is in the Final Editing phase. Due to wanting to keep the integrity of her work, she has chosen the self-publishing route. The estimated costs for self-publishing  can be between $4,500 and $20,000 + ! That is insane! And yet, she does not want that to be the barrier to helping young people and supportive adults within the foster care system successfully AGE-OUT and Holistically Heal.

Milestone 1:  ($2,755 Raised will guarantee my self-publishing ( paperback and e-book Launch by September 29,2020)

Milestone 2: ($3,150 Raised will guarantee The Black Foster Youth Workbook to help young people and their supportive adults in congruence w/ the Handbook Launch by October 10,2020)

Milestone 3: ($4,255 Raised will guarantee production and launch of The Black Foster Youth Handbook *Audiobook* which will be given away for free with the purchase of this book Launch by November 11,2020)

Anyone donating over $18  will get a signed-copy of The Black Foster Youth Handbook AND access to worksheets found within the handbook for their personal download.
