The Birth of the Acid Western is a journey that uncovers the rich film culture in New Mexico since the turn of the 19th century, the evolution of the western genre in American cinema, and the complexity of a filmmaker discovering the life and work of another filmmaker through archival research and interviews.
By donating to my documentary film project, you will help advance independent filmmaking in New Mexico, with a film that will put Southern New Mexico on the map as a key player in the development of film culture.
These funds will go towards equipment, production costs, and mostly post-production expenses (editing, color grading, and sound design). With your help, I will be able to produce an industry standard film that may take this film all the way to the Academy Awards.
While the primary need at this time is funds, the next phase of production will involve more key interviews with friends, colleagues, and even acquaintances of Orville Wanzer, as well as student films that were made in his courses. This means you can also help my by spreading the work and sharing this fundraiser.
I am still in search of the original 35mm negative of The Devil’s Mistress. Please contact me, and share this Go Fund Me page with anyone who might be able to contribute to this next phase of production with interviews, information, and original 16 and 35mm films.
