Many birdwatchers have visited Buckton, remember the Isabelline Shrike, the Black-throated Thrush or the even rarer Brown Flycatcher or perhaps just the Puffins on the famous Yorkshire Cliffs?
For the past 50 years, bird recording here has produced some remarkable records. Painstaking research by Mark Thomas has now brought all these records together in one book with chapters on the best months to visit, the best parts of the site to find key birds, the full systematic list of 235 species, the ringing totals and recoveries, accounts from 20 of the most remarkable days since 1975. The book has a foreword written by the DIM Wallace, the grandmaster of patch watching and ornithology.
The book text is nearly complete with an expected publication date in May/June 2021. It is being produced by Designwing - the company behind the amazing annual report from Spurn Bird Observatory and the award winning book 'The Birds of Spurn' by the late Andy Roadhouse. The report will feature full colour photographs throughout, taken of the habitats, birds and people of Buckton.
This page has been set up in order to cover the cost of publication. Donors can secure their copy at £15 per book (p&p included). In addition, you may wish to sponsor a species(s) within the checklist (your name will be documented within the book, alongside the account for that species) - with a minimum donation of £50 per species.
