Andy was initially diagnosed with colon cancer in August 2017. The initial cancer was treated with surgery and chemotherapy.
In October 2019, we found out the cancer had come back and had spread into his peritoneal cavity. The prognosis wasn't good. He did some chemotherapy, underwent a very aggressive surgery at Mayo, and did 5 weeks of chemo/radiation in 2020. That all went well and got rid of the cancer.
At the end of November, Andy starting having some issues with blockages. In January 2021, we found out his cancer was causing this. Andy had surgery to place to a g-tube for drainage and now he's on TPN and IV fluid 24/7 while at home. Chemotherapy is working right now to fight the cancer, but all this is palliative. There is no cure for Andy's cancer. He still has a lot of cancer in his body, and it's pretty aggressive. Fortunately, it's not affecting any of his major organs other than his small intestine. The chance of him living to see 2022 is pretty small. But we're not giving up hope.
Right now disability and stimulus money is covering our bills. I've had to cut back on my business though in order to care for Andy. We are very fortunate that health insurance is covering all medical expenses as well.
We've had several family members and friends ask us to start a fundraiser so they could help our family.
Any money from here will be used for cremation and memorials we want to create for Tristan (we're doing something with the hair Andy is losing and likely some sort of stuffed toy out of his clothing).
I had always planned on going back to work full time after Tristan was in school. Andy's initial diagnosis came right before Tristan started 4K which made it impossible between caring for Andy and all sorts of doctor's appointments and surgeries (Andy's had 4 major surgeries and at least 6-7 minor surgeries since his initial diagnosis) and chemotherapy.
Money from this will also help Tristan and I navigate our new life as a family of 2 until I can find a job or expand my business to support us or to fund moving expenses or daycare.
I don't expect to raise all this money, but I have to put an amount here.
