Hi, our names are Kayla Slayton, Jaydin Mims, Taylor Wilson, and Tayla Brown. We are fundraising for our short film, The Ballad of Mecca Graves. The Ballad of Mecca Graves centers around a young African American woman in her twenties who has an appropriated idea of what love, for her, is supposed to look like. With the comments and opinions of others, she finds it hard to accept that she can be loved and deserving of it without having a series of unfortunate relationships. As black women, we are often programmed that love is earned and that journey of earning is through unnecessary painful experiences. So with this film, we want to highlight that idea and how detrimental that is to many black women. With the money we raise, we will put it towards the production process of creating this film, from camera equipment, catering, wardrobe for our actors/actresses, finding the perfect locations to tell our story, production design and hopefully film festivals.
