The Always Fabulous Bethann Dixon

As many of you know, several years ago, Sam the Bugler met Bethann Dixon at The Preakness Stakes. Bethann has spent decades as a successful, middle school music teacher and trombone player. The meeting was fate. Sam almost immediately had the idea of bringing Bethann on board as part of the Triple Crown bugling team.  As the son of a female trumpet player who struggled in a male field in the 1940's, he knew it was meant to be. Bethann stepped up to the plate and made history, repeatedly featured on national news stories for breaking another glass ceiling. Bethann also happens to be an accomplished horsewoman. Over the last year or so, Bethann has quietly struggled to come back physically from a kidney transplant and complications that arose during that surgery. During the last several weeks, she returned to her work as as middle school teacher and got back in the saddle, her biggest physical goal. Unfortunately, the day before Thanksgiving, she and her friend were hit by an uninsured, wrong way driver traveling at a speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. Bethann has a broken shoulder, clavicle, scapula, sternum, and six broken ribs, in addition to a head injury. Her friend has broken all of his ribs. They both remain in the trauma center at the University of Maryland. Luckily, Bethann has auto insurance and health insurance. However, she will not be able to replace her vehicle with what she receives from the insurance company, as she was to make the last payment on the vehicle today. To be clear, she will receive the current value of the vehicle only. In addition, she has months of recovery ahead of her, during which time she will not be able to work, though the bills will continue to come. Team Bugler is asking those who love and have been entertained by Bethann over these past several years to gift whatever you can to help her with these uncovered, non-medical elated expenses to come- her vehicle and her ongoing, regular bills.  We all want Bethann focused on physical recovery, not these extraneous financial concerns.
