Our friend, neighbor, and our boy's coach, Alex Lieberman, has been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer that has spread to his liver. Alex's biggest challengehas just begun. It is further complicated by a condition known as cachexia which extinguishes his appetite and makes it difficult for him to eat.
Alex loves coaching lacrosse. He has spent countless hours teaching youth and high school boys how to play and win lacrosse. Alex started coaching for Mountain Lacrosse in the spring of 2010. He continued with Mountain for the next 6 years, tirelessly and without pay, coaching numerous Conifer and Evergreen teams. Thereafter, in 2016, Alex moved to coach the Conifer High School Junior Varsity Boys. Recently, Alex accepted the position of head JV coach for Green Mountain High School. Alex has lead his teams to many victories. His calm and strategic manner drawsrespect from the players and parents alike. Always a fierce competitor, Alex coaches with a gentle spirit, never yelling at players but instead quietly conveying plays and strategy. He is an exemplary role model; greatly loved and respected by all. Alex's quick smile and friendly personality allows one to easily strike up afriendship.
Alex is a loving and devoted husband to his beautiful wife, Kelly and his two fabulous children, Kate and Hayden, who both are currently in school. Kelly
works full-time and will be juggling her work with helping Alex get well. Kate is a freshman at CSU who comes home every week-end to be with the family.
Hayden is a sophomore at Conifer High School and is a talented lacrosse player himself.
Professionally, Alex is the Director of Finance and Facilities for the Jeffco Action Center, an organization that is dedicated to helping others who are down on their luck. Alex has dedicated all aspects of his life to helping others.
Alex discovered the cancer by chance this fall while still volunteering as the head coach of Conifer High School. Alex was helping a maintenance employee with painting and developed pain on his right side which he thought was a pulled muscle in his lower right rib area. Later, around Christmas, Alex noticed a lump in that injured area. He had a CT scan a week later. The results showed the tumors in his colon and liver. Coincidentally, Alex had been feeling tired and had no appetite for may weeks prior to this. Now he knows why.
