The Abundance Fund-Housing Stabilization
The Learning Tree (https://thelearningtrees.com/) supports the initiatives of the “Abundance Fund” in communities that are deemed undervalued.
Through the Abundance Fund, the gifts and talents of our community residents are discovered by asking a simple question, What Brings You Joy?
The definition of abundance is to have more than enough to share with those around you. Abundance is often used to describe positive qualities and is the opposite of scarcity. When you have joy for something there is an abundant amount of energy and emotions surrounding that joy. This emotional energy can cultivate an internal gift that could supply and support an entire community.
For example, the Northwest side of Indianapolis has several residents that receive an abundant amount of joy from their gifts of gardening. Of course, gardening is therapeutic and supplies food for the person who cultivates her/his garden but a garden that is cultivated in “Joy” grows enough food to supply his or her entire community followed by an increased ability to generate currency from investors outside of the community.
There is one thing, amongst many, that is currently threatening and preventing the very livelihood and joy from spreading in our neighborhoods. This one thing is equivalent to a Tsunami with the ability to wash out entire communities. This one thing that has such a great impact on all of us is the “Housing Crisis”.
Gentrification and rising housing costs are causing entire communities to become displaced and homeless. The eviction rate in Indianapolis has more than doubled during/since the pandemic which continues to have a significant impact on our communities. This crisis has a direct effect on entire communities, leaving residents to experience depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, and a significant decline in “Joy”.

One of the many supports that the Abundance Fund offers to our communities in Indianapolis is providing housing stabilization funds. This funding is for those who are facing emergency housing situations. The Learning Tree, with its continued partnerships with Roots International, Indiana Landmarks, Indianapolis Foundation, and Impact Central, will continue to work to develop affordable and sustainable housing within our communities to restore joy and stability for community residents.

In exchange for the support from the Abundance Fund, we ask community residents, “What Brings You Joy?” This question allows community residents the opportunity to discover their gifts and visualize how their gifts and talents can be used to create social capital. This social capital can be utilized to generate economic wealth, viability, sustainability, and the ability for residents to provide mutual aid within their communities.
The Abundance Fund is invested in and committed to the development of our communities by utilizing the gifts and talents of our residents. Our collective goal is to assist community residents with making our communities viable and sustainable by alleviating the residual darkness experienced through the housing crisis.
Partner with us to keep the Joy in our communities! Assisting our communities in maintaining housing stability not only aids with building communities that are economically wealthy and sustainable but also enhances our community's joy and mutual delight.
