The Abano Family - Rodel Abano end-of-life care

Hi everyone, in August 2021 I met Mikaela Abano through work at JPCH Maternal Services. Sadly, Mikaela and her family were given heartbreaking news that her father- Rodel Abano’s, cancer returned but more aggressive than ever. My hopes are to help Mikaela and her family with the financial barriers they are now facing as Rodel Abano is now receiving end of life care.

Message from Mikaela Abano and family-

“Hello,

Rodel Abano is an amazing guy who sacrificed a lot and has so much to live for. October of 2019 he was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer and was clear for about two years until June of 2022 when a metastatic tumor was found in the left side of his brain. He fought hard and went through treatment but the cancer was stronger and had moved to the right side of his brain. From then on he continues to fight as the mets in his brain spread. Usually he is the type of person who is two steps ahead but this time we were too late.

Rodel is now in the season of his life as his family prepares for his end of life care. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover funeral costs.”

Funds raised will be used for:

- Financial support for Rodel’s family as they must take time off work to provide 24/7 care as he is at home palliative care

- Medical rentals for his family to provide at home comfort care

- Funeral services as they are not covered by his insurance
