Saving Grace

Grace is one of Coco's sweet babies.  When Grace was just a baby, maybe 4-5 weeks old,  I was able to feel her heart pounding out of her chest so we took her to the vet.  The vet said she had a bad heart murmur and suggested we take her to the cardiologist so off we went.  We did an echocardiogram on Grace when she was just 6 weeks old...I'll never forget the absolute fear racing through my mind.  The fear was amplified by the fact that this puppy was supposed to go to my friend's young children as a Christmas gift.  I waited for seemed like decades and then they finally handed me my little blonde fluffball and the devastating news....Grace had several severe heart defects and would be lucky if she reached 4 months of age.  My heart was broken.  After delivering the devastating news to the family that would no longer be getting her,  I had to figure out what we should do next.
I put a post of Facebook to see if anyone might be interested in taking this sweet little baby. ...if I let her go it would have to be to a special home that wouldn't be afraid if she were to die suddenly and that would instead let her live her best life and be treated like any other dog.  UNBELIEVABLE but we found the absolutely perfect home. ....one that was full of rescue animals and  the family was beyond capable of providing the perfect home....soon she was known as Grace.
Due to her severe heart conditions...Grade 6 heart murmur, severe SAS, mitral valve dysplasia, tricuspid valve dysplasia, and a severely enlarged heart it was decided it would be best not to put Grace under anesthesia to spay her and sadly to be honest we didn't anticipate her living very long.

Well fast forward to an unbelievable 6 years later!!  OMG this little dog that wasn't supposed to live to see 4 months will be turning 6 on Thanksgiving this year!!!  Up until this point her medical issues had been nothing more than needing beta blockers to keep her heart beating regularly.  Late one evening her owner called me up that she was bleeding severely much much much more than a regular heat cycle....right away I knew it was pyometria.  I advised her owner to take her to the emergency clinic to stabilize her and then we can discuss options.  We both thought this was it for Grace...how could she make a complicated surgery at nearly 6 years of age with this heart????

The next morning I consulted with a board certified cardiologist and we brought her to him for a cardiac evaluation.  He performed an echo and said he felt she would be able to live through the surgery but would need a cardiac protocol and a skilled surgeon.  Great.  The estimate was nearly 10k!!! not great!

This sweet girl had a smile on her face the entire time.  Her owner was not expecting this crazy crazy bill but knew she needed to be saved yet again.  Grace's owner is a true angel.

If anyone can find it in their hearts to help, it would be more than appreciated and will go back to Grace's owners rescue funds.  Grace's owner has saved an amazing amount of animals and would love to help her save more as she has saved Grace and countless others.  Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
