Help raise money for Welsh Air Ambulance Charity
I'm raising money in aid of Welsh Air Ambulance Charitable Trust and every donation will help. I would like to be sponsered for running 100km (now 100miles) between Jan 15th and Feb 29th, running various 10k's and a half marathon. I know these may not seem like alot but considering I have the lungs of Dot Cotton, hate running and gave birth in November, it's going to be a massive challenge for me.
Runs;
Great Birmingham Run - 05/05 - 10km / 6.2miles
Sutton Coldfield Fun Run - 02/06 - 13.7km / 8.5miles
Xterra Snowdonia - 14/07 - 10km / 6.2miles
Solihull Half Marathon - 11/08 - 21km / 13.10miles
100km - now 161km - update -
as of 25/01 = 24.5 km
as of 29/01 = 33.5 km
as of 02/02 = 48.0 km (I got second degree burns on my foot morning of 02/02 while making Cooper's bottle ♀️) so having a few days off to heal)
as of 10/02 = 61.5 km
as of 17/02 - 83 km
as of 19/02 - 101 km! Decided to up my target to 100 miles/161 km by 29/02
as of 23/02 - 130.5 km
AS OF 29/02 - 161KM / 100MILES!
The reason for this is on December 30th, my son Cooper and I were staying at my parents in Anglesey, Wales. Cooper, who was five weeks old at the time showed no prior symptoms until he suddenly went pale, floppy, unresponsive and stopped breathing. Myself and my parents immediately called 999 and performed CPR/mouth to mouth while waiting for the ambulance. The closest hospital is a 40minute drive away so an emergency doctor from the next town over arrived within 10minutes of the call, followed closely by the air ambulance team which consisted of a volunteer pediatric consultant from the local hospital.
Cooper was then taken to hospital where he and I stayed for five days and he had mutliple tests including a lumbar puncture to rule things out. During this time his infection indicator was raised to 131 (anything over 10 is bad, over 100 is extremely dangerous, particularity in small babies). While at the hospital, it was confirmed he had bronchiolitis and a suspected partially collasped lung. I later found out they believe he also had an acute kidney infection which turned septic and without the quick action of the NHS and Air Ambulance, I could have lost him.
After this, I researched the Welsh Air Ambulance service and was surprised to learn they are not NHS funded and rely on donations to keep going. I also found out recently that it costs £60,000 to operate an air ambulance for just 60minutes. This is why I have chosen to try and raise what I can for them as a thank you for saving my sons life and to also raise awareness to parents/care givers that we should all have basic first aid training including CPR/mouth to mouth.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
