Olivia's Medical Expenses

Olivia Grace & Family
At age 14, Olivia began complaining of her hip hurting. Her mom, Amie took her to their orthopedic physician on a Wednesday. After x-rays showed a suspicious spot near the head of her femur (where here upper leg bone connects into her hip socket), an MRI was ordered the next day. Within 3 days (Monday), Olivia and her family found themselves sitting in the office of a Pediatric Orthopedic Oncologist with a diagnosis of possible cancer. After another MRI with contrast and blood work, this second physician gave them a diagnosis of three possibilities: 1-Chondroblastoma Bone Tumor, 2-Giant Cell Bone Tumor or 3-a Bone Infection.
Olivia was scheduled for surgery the next morning for a bone biopsy. A hole was drilled through the leg bone to the middle of the femoral head and a biopsy was taken. The pathologist could not confirm a diagnosis at that time. Her incision was closed, and she was to stay in the hospital and go home the next day. However, due to a few issues she stayed for two days and on Thursday, while in the hospital the pathology report came back as a Benign Chondroblastoma Tumor. This was the best news ever, but still a lot of surgery and recovery to come.
Within 4 days from seeing the Pediatric Orthopedic Oncologist, Olivia had to experience two surgeries in 4 days. The tumor was removed, the hole and drilled tunnel was filled with transplant bone and a metal plate applied. Olivia is now looking at a 6-8-week recovery. Additionally, there is a chance this may occur again. Olivia will have to have a 5-year follow-up. Two years of x-rays and CT Scans every three months, then maybe every 6 months and on from there for 5 years.
Olivia's mom, Amie has recently started a new job and is a single mom of three teenagers, all in high school. Amie hasn't accrued any vacation time yet at her new job. She has a $5,000 medical insurance deductible, not including physician and outpatient co-pays. Also, Olivia needs all types of home equipment including a hospital bed, wheelchair, walker, crutches and a beside commode. The equipment company wants a $2,000 deposit, since some of her recent payments on the hospital stay have not posted to her insurance deductible. In addition to these expenses, Olivia has 5 years of follow up tests to make sure it doesn’t reoccur somewhere else (as noted above). Olivia and this family has a long way to go and this is a tremendous financial burden for a single mom with three teenage high school students.
Amie always helps anyone she can, though her church, and many other community organizations. Please pitch in and help this sweet Christian mother and Olivia through this emotional and financial situation with your prayers and donations.
