It is after much thought, and hesitation, that I have decided to reach out for help. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Erin, for thirty years. We raised our two sons together. In March of 2014, I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer of the esophagus. I had no idea what our lives were in for. I underwent 2 months of chemotherapy and 28 radiation treatments. I anticipated that I would fully recover, and return to work. One of the unexpected side effects of my radiation treatments is called esophageal stricture. It is scarring, and thickening of the inside of my esophagus, to the point where I can no longer swallow food. I had to have a PEG tube inserted into my stomach in August 2014, and have to feed myself with a nutrition rich prescription formula, five times per day. It is my sole source of nutrition. I have been through a lifetime worth of medications, PET scans, CT scans, barium swallow tests, blood tests, and esophageal stretching procedures. My oncologist has said that it is likely that I will have to do the tube feedings for the rest of my life. I went from weighing 190lbs down to 140lbs. I can no longer work, and am living on Social Security Disability. Money raised through this campaign will be used to help me pay for a small mountain of medical expenses.
