GC Historical Society Museum Restoration Project

Tax deductible
The Garden City Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization and museum listed on the national historic register. The Society’s board, members, volunteers, donors and friends have undertaken an ambitious project to restore the exterior of the original 1872 era Apostle house on 109 11th Street. When complete, the house will be used as a museum for the benefit of the community offering educational programs, art exhibits, lectures, community events, tours and operate our consignment and specialty gift shop, The AT Stewart Exchange. We’ve made great progress with the generosity of our donors and the contributions of Vinny Muldoon’s Old World Quality to repair and restore the front and east facade of the building. We have two more sides to go and then the interior to restore. Due to covid-19, we have not been able to raise significant funds to continue the work and we are starting this GoFundMe campaign to raise awareness and generate the capital needed to continue progress this winter. Thank you for considering The Garden City Historical Society this giving season. Your gift is tax deductible and donations are made to the PayPal Giving Fund and regranted within 15-45 days to The Garden City Historical Society. About the Apostle House: The Garden City Historical Society is an “Apostle House,” part of founder, Alexander T. Stewart's planned community, the first in the United States. The 12-room Victorian was built in 1872 as a home but was never used as a residence. In 1892 the Episcopal Diocese built St. Mary’s School next door to the home. It housed classes, boarding for faculty and had the kitchen in the basement. In 1902 when St. Mary’s expanded its facility, the house was moved to 89 Fifth Street. In 1975, the Episcopal Diocese donated the home to the newly formed Historical Society. In 1988, the building was moved to its current location at 109 Eleventh Street, thanks to the generous offer from the Village of Garden City to provide the site. The Society Museum is currently closed due to the ongoing restoration and covid-19. For updates on events, follow us on Facebook, Instagram @gardencityhistoricalsociety or at TGCHS.org.
