Our friend in Tasmania, Tewa Eve Ackerman is in need of cataract surgery on her left eye in the next couple of months. Those who know her know that her vision has been seriously compromised for many years. She has glaucoma and cataracts, and several years ago had a botched cataract surgery which lessened both her eyesight and her confidence in more surgeries.
Recently she has been led to a wonderful highly skilled surgeon who is not only willing to do the left eye cataract surgery inexpensively, but is confident that he can also repair the failed surgery of 2005 on her right eye. The initial surgery is important and needs to be done soon, or the hardened cataract coupled with glaucoma will leave her with no sight at all. Because of the great arrangement her doctor has been willing to make, each of these surgeries will cost only $1500 au, making a total of $3000 au (about $3300 US dollars).
The tentative date for the first surgery is early February. I am encouraging her to set that date in stone with the faith that all of us, by giving what we can, can make the payment possible.
Tewa has lived courageously and generously with compromised eyesight for many years. Her income is fixed, and she had nearly given up trying to figure out how to pay for the surgeries when I suggested that we try crowd funding.
I asked her, "How many people have you touched over the years with your writings and paintings and stories about your beloved Kelpies? "” I can't imagine they wouldn't want to give a little something to help make this happen."
She is lively, humorous, passionate, and gives so much of herself"” for Tewa the idea of having full vision in both eyes, being able to draw and paint and walk her beautiful Mr. Red safely and easily really is a miracle. I asked what she would like to add, and it was this:
"How wonderful it will be to see my son's face again "
