In April of this year (2018) our vibrant, charismatic and one of kind, friend and family members life drastically changed in a matter of moments. Terry Joe suffered a stroke in his brain stem.  It was in that moment, that life as he knew it, would forever be altered.
Terry Joe was blessed to have people around him in that moment and was rushed to the hospital. It was communicated by his medical team that Terry Joe had suffered a "massive catastrophic stroke" to a very critical part of his brain: the brain stem. This is a vital area of the brain that is responsible for many functions like breathing, temperature, eye movement, speech, balance, and the ability to swallow.
     The most emotionally overwhelming part of all of this is learning and witnessing that the rest of his brain function remains intact, which means that he has a strong cognitive understanding as usual, but does not have the capacity to utilize the right side of his body, paralyzed entire right arm, leg, and speech. In a word: devastating.

Terry will require many months, and likely years, of recovery to gain partial functioning of the right side of his body. He will need a tremendous amount of medical, nursing and therapeutic support indefinitely to attain a quality of life that so many of us take for granted.

Sadly, the financial burden of this traumatic event has become too much for this family and they need your help. You see, Terry has always worked full time and co tributes 100% of his income to maintaining a home for his wife, kids, and his beloved pets. Without his income, the burden is becoming too overwhelming for his wife Tammy to handle on her own. Tammy is working 50 hrs a week trying to keep up w bills that were once paid with 2 incomes.  Therapy co-pay alone is $60 per week just to go to times per week, $240 per month, and that’s only going twice a week. He needs way more, he needs another time a week.  His disability is still pending and no insurance.  There is a Therapeutic tool called Fit Me that he would love to have but cannot afford. This product could help re-connect the brain with movement of his arms and leg, if he had access to it.

We are asking friends, family, communities at large, organizations, and anyone that has been personally touched by Terry Joes many acts of love, kindness, spirit and generosity to assist us in eliminating financial hardship and barriers to his recovery.

This is going to be a very long and hard road. We are extremely grateful to our family and friends who have supported him the last couple of months.. Now we find ourselves reaching out to the community for financial support. We hope to set-up a robust fund to allow our Terry Joe to receive all the care and compassion he deserves to make his healing process as filled with ease and hope as possible for as long as it takes.  Truly, no amount is too small, and any support is deeply appreciated.
