Terry Hayes Memorial
Donation protected
Terry Hayes, long time Smithsburg resident and local treasure, passed away last week. Terry was known to just about all the citizens of Smithsburg and could often be seen sitting in the Dixie, Smithsburg Market, and attending other town events. Often Terry was seen with puppets, signs, and intricate costumes. Many may not be aware, but Terry was an extremely talented craftsman and made all of the aforementioned things by hand. He also was a man of faith and attended Trinity Lutheran Church for many years.
After overwhelming support on social media, I am proposing a memorial bench or another possible memorial to remember one of Smithsburg’s most enthusiastic residents. Perhaps a bench outside of the Dixie Diner where he could often be found, in memory of Terry would be most appropriate. I have set the goal for $1000. I’m not sure what a realistic monetary goal would be, but whatever is raised, we will do something special to honor the man who called this place his home.
Thanks,
Landon Grove
