TERRIFIED GOLDEN LEFT WITH TUMOR

This sweet and terrified girl (Bonny as we found out) was recently adopted by soft-hearted soul from a local high-kill shelter where she'd been shaking in a kennel for 5 days with a large growth on her front limb. This amazing rescuer quickly realized it was more than just a tumor...this gal was a hot mess - and a bit more medically was needed. She called SCGRR and we ran to meet them at the vet. Bonny continued to cower and shake but when we presented her with a tennis ball, her tucked tail started to wiggle and we saw hope in her eyes.
Her tumor was large and uncomfortable for sure. We are keeping our fingers cross that once removed and sent off to the lab..that it won't be cancerous.
That was just the most obvious thing. She is skin and bones. Her hip bones protrude and what we thought might be additional masses appear to be huge callouses on either side of her tail from sitting. There is another lump under her tail found during grooming that still needs to be investigated. Her ears were full of just about every bacteria and yeast strain one can imagine. One of her eyes was infected and oozing yellow guck. Her skin was a rash of irritation, hair loss and infection - obviously living outside. And despite having relatively clean teeth, the front ones were worn to the nub.
We've started antibiotics and medicated baths to help relieve the itching and improve skin. Also eye meds to clear up that infection. She was able to spend a few days with her rescuer getting some much needed rest and time with her much loved ball.
Tomorrow Bonny heads back to the vet - we hope for removal of the mass. Please keep her in your prayers that she weathers the surgery well and that "The Floppy" as the vet named it is not cancerous! We can't thank our community of supporters enough. YOU keep us helping dogs like Bonny.
