This is a short note to everyone to let you all know what we know today.
Our son Terrel was in a car accident last night on his way home from work. He rolled the van in a bean field. (We just can't seem to get more than 250,000 miles on our vans . . . )
After the van settled on its driver-side Terrel took off his seatbelt and escaped through the now empty windshield space. He then walked about a mile south to a farm he knew of. Fortunately the lady living there was a nurse. She recognized the signs of trauma and drove him to the hospital in Mayville.
The mayville hospital stabilized Terrel and sent him to a Fargo hospital. Fargo stitched him up and give him a CT scan from his pelvis to his head. It was discovered that Terrel's top vertebrae is broken and his lungs are badly bruised.
Fargo flew Terrel to Minneapolis, Mn where he is now in ICU firmly weighed down with wires tubes and drugs. He is sleeping/snoring peacefully right now. Having been up most of the night after his traumatic circus ride in the van everyone is glad he's sleeping. The doctors are talking about putting Terrel in a HALO device. They are going to do an MRI this afternoon and are having a meeting about him right now. They work in teams here.
Gayle and I drove down. We left Fargo at 3:35am and had a half hour nap at the Alex rest area. A real trucker could have made it straight through, but I'm just a pretender these days, so, naps . . .
The people here at the hospital are nicer than nice, kinder than that and more helpful than we deserve.
That's all we've got to say right now. Already many people have been very helpful. We really appreciate everything everyone has said and done for us since the accident.
