Representing farmers...in Italy!

Donation protected

Aloha from Anna of Squash and Awe Farm!

Just a couple weeks ago, I received notice that I was selected to be part of the Slow Food USA's Delegation at Terra Madre in Turin, Italy this September.  I will be representing Hawaii as a squash breeder and soil builder with this year's theme of Loving the Earth.  Many aspects of our global food movement will be represented at this global conference of over 150 countries.  I am proud to be representing small farmers, Hawaii, and the USA.  As a state delegate, Slow Food will be covering airport transfers, food, and housing in Italy, but the balance is fundraised locally. Members of my local and state community have already stepped forward and written recommendations on my behalf.  Baker Creek Heirloom seeds has made a generous donation of Slow Food Ark of Taste heirloom seeds that I  will be sharing with other sponsors. I am honored to be chosen...and I am willing and eager to match your funding with more actions.

*update* all expenses for Terra Madre have been sucessfully reached!!! Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) team!  Last bit of funding support will be put toward my biodiversity education right in the fields of Europe.  I will be visiting food producers, food markets and festivals, and be sharing my experience through my writing and photography.  More details to follow!

I am willing to do community actions in exchange for your assistance in offsetting the cost of this educational  trip.  My guerrilla style has been transforming my community in waste reduction, farm education, cooking classes, food pantry donations and more.  These outreach efforts, combined with crop research are part of why I am representing my community at this global food summit.

So please celebrate with me!  You can help by contributing to my travel fund, and I will be acting right here in our Hawaii community, while also imersing myself in master classes in cooking, biodiversity and more while in Italy.  Interested in ancient corn?  I will be attending a class on cooking with ancient corn in Italy!  You can sponsor where my new education about corn is shared here in Hawaii.  Would you like me to give a cooking class for pre-k?  A library talk for the elders!  You name it, and it will be done.

So please think about what you would like to see in your community and select a sponsorship level.  Mahalo nui loa for believing in my little farm's efforts at transforming our food from soil to seed to table. Mahalo nui loa...and Grazie!
