Sustainability Leadership Training

I am raising funds to help with my tuition and travel fees to attend the global Sustainable Brands Conference 2014 , and I hope you will make a gift to support my passion to be a better leader for sustainability.

A bit about me...
I currently serve as the Founder and Executive Director of Experience Green , a nonprofit organization based on Hilton Head Island, SC and I also have a small boutique consultancy, Sustainable Solutions , that helps organizations "leave the right impression" on business, the community and the environment. 

I am passionate about being an ambassador for sustainability, and I want to increase my effectiveness in how to guide others toward a shared vision of sustainable thinking, planning and doing that is 'less bad' - toward becoming a truly meaningful and net positive force for restoring healthy environments, communities, families and people.

You might ask...
What is a "sustainability" and why it is important to build a sustainable community?  A sustainable community balances costs/benefits to the planet, its people and prosperity (it is not environmentalism). A strong economy brings properity, a healthy and balanced ecology benefits our planet and economy, and well managed resources meet needs of the people and ensure the quality of life that is loved by all inhabitants.

I have a personal interest in golf.  In 2013, under my leadership, Experience Green launched the first Sustainability in Golf initiative in North America.  We recognize that golf is a critical part of American communities, contributing to the economy, environment, health and wellness, philanthropic efforts and quality of life.  This initiative advocates for collaboration among industry groups (superintendents, pros, architects, owners and manufacturers) for a shared sense of stewardship to generate profit with purpose. 



Experience Green was also the first in Beaufort County, SC to host a Zero Waste event in 2012, and in Sept 2014 we offered a first Zero Waste Workshop for Events, Hospitality and Golf.  This is an innovative strategy that can make a signficant impact for the environment and makes economic sense.

Experience Green also hosts an annual Earth Day Celebration as well as other educational experiences to promote practices that lend to building a sustainable community. 
I served as chair of the first Sustainability Advisory Committee on Hilton Head Island and spear headed the development and launch of a leading edge initiative, a Baseline Sustainability Assessment of the community to measure its resource use, to determine where it is today in order to anticipate and plan for its future.

So what now?  I have the responsibility to be an ambassador for sustainability, and my ability to communicate in a relevant manner, and be knoweledgeable, increases my effectiveness and long term success.  I am planning to take my value to the next level and participate in the Sustainable Brands global conference.

I am personally funding this education opportunity. However, it will benefit not only the work of Experience Green and Sustainable Solutions, but my contribution to society and the world in all of my life engagements.  I am grateful for a local benefactor that is covering my accommodations, but I need to raise dollars to cover the conference registration, transportation and associated travel expenses.
