What are you doing?
I'm working on increasing awareness about Tenaganita, and raising funds for the amazing work they do. As I travel from Cambodia to Scotland, I will try to meet with people, communities and organisations that work with Tenaganita, and who Tenaganita has helped, and will tell their stories through my writing - https://camverra.wordpress.com

What is Tenaganita?
Tenaganita is a Malaysian human rights organisation dedicated to assisting, building, advocating and protecting migrants, refugees, women and children from exploitation, abuse, discrimination, slavery and human trafficking. For over 25 years, they’ve worked to uphold, protect and promote the rights and dignity of the most marginalised communities in society. Their impact has reached beyond the borders of Malaysia, changing the landscape of migrant advocacy in the region and influencing it internationally. More info here - www.tenaganita.net

Why Tenaganita?
Tenaganita was founded by my late mum, Dr Irene Fernandez. She dedicated her entire life fighting for a more just world for the most oppressed in society, those whose voices are deliberately unheard and dignity denied. Unfortunately, her fight ended four years ago at the age of 67 when she passed away. Her struggle, however, continues on through Tenaganita and all who support it.

They've been doing so much AMAZING work for over 25 years for the most underprivileged and exploited in society. From conducting rescues, taking on difficult cases, providing shelter, carrying out awareness campaigns, advocating for change locally and internationally, and connecting communities to support networks, the folks at Tenaganita are some of the most selfless people I know. To keep doing what they do for this long and under tough circumstances speaks to their character, passion and dedication. They, however, need our help.

I want to do my part to help ensure that Tenaganita can carry on supporting survivors of abuse, human trafficking, refugees and migrants so they can heal, and build their lives again. I also want to help Tenaganita’s fight to change our legal, political and social cultures so that migrants, refugees and marginalised communities will not continue to be exploited, enslaved and have their rights denied.

I hope you will help too.

P/S: If you share this, please add the #tenagakita. Thanks!
