Hi, My name is Paula and I am fundraising for my fiancé, Temujin Kensu, who was wrongfully convicted of the murder of Scott Macklem in 1986. Temujin has served 35 years for this crime that was physically impossible for him to commit. I say that because of the abundance of evidence of his innocence. You may say there has to be evidence of his guilt if he was convicted, but the absolute truth is that there is NONE. Most people find it incredible and unbelievable that 12 jurors can find somebody guilty of a crime who is really innocent, but it happens more than you realize. Evidence did not convict Temujin; misconduct and corruption did. In fact, a very courageous judge ruled in 2010 that Temujin should be released or given a new trial because she agreed there was egregious misconduct by the prosecutor and attorney in his case, but unfortunately that ruling was later overturned due to a timing technicality! Her name was Denise Paige Hood and you can find the link to the Habeas ruling below. Imagine, being told over a decade ago that you didn't deserve to be in prison, yet you remain because of a very broken "justice" system that refuses to let you go!
Temujin's case is now before the Michigan Attorney General's Conviction Integrity Unit, which we have faith will release him very soon. Because he will meet the criteria, he will be eligible for the wrongful conviction compensation, but that could take several years for him to see. This fundraiser will help with legal fees now. Most people don't realize that Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests can cost a lot of money. We recently requested a copy of a 2001 Michigan State Police report that costs $840.00 - for one report. Another FOIA resulted in a $35,000 charge! See the link below!!! In addition to documents that support his innocence, he will need to raise money to cover attorney's fees for his civil suit that he will file to sue the county that wrongfully convicted him.
