Inspired by the spirit of the Temple initiatives at Burning Man, the Temple of Tranquility is a large-scale public art piece designed in response to the recent, collective trauma experienced throughout the Colorado community. We have witnessed the impact of devastating events such as the Boulder King Soopers and Club Q tragedies, the ongoing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Marshall Fire. In the face of such adversity, there is a beautiful opportunity to provide a space for contemplation, reverence, and collective healing.
The Temple of Tranquility is a non-denominational gathering space, created to foster a renewed sense of community in South Boulder. It will serve as a sanctuary for reflection where individuals can seek (or serendipitously discover) a unique opportunity to grieve and grow together, surrounded by those who have shared their specific, community-centered challenges. Much like the Burning Man Temples, our project encourages visitors to contribute personal mementos, photos, and written reflections in honor of lost loved ones, co-creating a piece of art that visually represents our journey toward healing. Accompanied by a schedule of mental health support programming, skill-building workshops and an opening and closing ceremony, the project offers a diverse pool of opportunities for Boulder residents of all ages to come together in acknowledgment of our shared experiences.
The Temple of Tranquility will be constructed in Harlow Platts Community Park in October of 2023, and will remain open to the public for interaction for two weeks. Your generous contribution would play a vital role in bringing the Temple of Tranquility to life and ensuring its accessibility to everyone.
Your support will:
*Cover the construction and installation costs for the art piece
*Contribute to accompanying Mental Health and Skill-Sharing programming
*Fund opening and closing ceremonies
*Support the memorialization of community contributions to the structure
Thank you to our dearest community, for your love and care for this project! Without you, this would not be possible!
