Telescopes For Kids

Hi we are members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Winnipeg Centre. Last year our Centre received a donation of a couple of telescopes that were gathering dust in a closet. We decided this was a great opportunity to give these telescopes as gifts to some kids that probably wouldn't have a telescope under their holiday tree this year. We created an essay writing contest, and although due to short timeframes only got a dozen entries, we were happy to give away the telescopes to two amazing kids, as well as book packages and a membership to the Royal Astronomical Society. In fact, we gave ALL of the kids a years membership to the RASC as a reward for all their hard work on their essay.

 

This year we want to expand to many, many different groups of kids and get a LOT of entries and give away some telescopes! You can help us by making a donation in whatever amount you can manage. Funds will be used to repair, refurbish, and buy parts to complete telescopes to give to kids. This will be a year round activity for our Centre so funding is needed to allow us to take advantage of telescopes that might show up on the used market or as special deals from vendors.

 

Last year we were able to make Hunter and Kara very happy! This year, the sky is the limit!
