Hi all,
A few weeks ago, a car cut me off in the bike lane, slammed on their brakes, and though I grabbed handfuls of (hydro disc) brake, I still went into the back of the car, unable to stop in time. There were no witnesses, and the police officer that arrived at the scene would not let me get the driver's information and essentially told me to kick rocks.
It's an awkward situation, asking for help from people who had no hand in the incident, and have been nothing but kind towards me. And other than popping out my dentures at inopportune times at unwitting coworkers, I don't like talking about it. There's something unsettling about seeing fragments of teeth scattered across the pavement, and leaving the scene with now-useless porcelain in a paramedic's nitrile glove.
Luckily, those two teeth I lost were already fake. They were implants put in a little over five years ago, and the acutal implants are fine, but the abutments and crowns need to be replaced. My dental expenses are currently sitting at $4250, and the ER bill was about $400. Any extra money goes into getting an adjacent tooth that shifted from the impact corrected, and I'll probably get a front wheel that doesn't warble in the future as well.
Help is greatly appreciated, and I'm sure that the guys at the shop would love an end to my Anse Bundren-esque muttering about getting me some teeth.
