teddys top surgery recovery fund

A friend of mine suggested that I should try making one of these for a top surgery recovery fund I am starting to save up. I will ideally be taking the winter semester off of school sometime next year to fly home to British Columbia so I can get top surgery (ideally) (possibly as soon as) Spring 2020. (UPDATE: I have a date now! In January!) Crazy and very exciting! I feel beyond grateful that this is finally becoming reality. (For people who do not know me personally, I am nonbinary/gender-nonconforming/transmasculine (they/them and he/him pronouns), I have felt intense dysphoria about my breasts since they grew on my chest, and I literally fantasize about them floating away. Because of this discomfort, I am often slouching in order to minimize the appearance of my breasts, which is starting to take a toll on my back. Furthermore, I am unable to bind lately because of panic attacks (most often caused by dysphoria), and issues with heart palpitations and trouble breathing. Binding also worsens my already horrible back situation and just generally isn’t good for me. I can’t express how much this surgery means to me, how freeing it will be, how good it would be for my mental and physical health. I want the healing process to be manageable and overall as stress free as possible, because as a result of the surgery I will actually be in a lot of pain for a considerable amount of time. I have a very sensitive body and I am mostly concerned about the possibilities of this being a somewhat hugely debilitating healing process. 




I will need to fly from Montreal, QC where I am currently in school (for film animation/fibres) back home to Victoria, BC. The three months of my leave from work + school includes needing to stay in Victoria for the 3 month checkup. I can’t go back to Montreal too soon in case anything goes wrong and I need to get medical attention (in which case I would have to fly back to B.C.).




Taking 3 months off is a huge blow to my studies and finances, particularly because I’m incredibly financially unstable to begin with. The $4880 is to cover primarily my flight home and back, (which could hypothetically be a last minute booking depending on when I get my top surgery date, which will ideally be very soon), plus expenses (food, bills, possibly insurance), lack of employment income, and any post-op medical gear (i.e. compression vest, tape, etc.), doctors appointments, as well as the 2.9% of the total + 0.30 cents per donation that go fund me deducts for fees.
