Teddy's Liver Surgery

Donation protected
Hi everyone! Thank you for reading my story. Back in January I adopted an adorable little guy I named Teddy. He is lmost a year and a half old and a mini poodle mix. He was severely underweight when I adopted him, but as we didn't know his previous conditions, I took him to get a wellness check at the vet. They ran a blood work test to check everything, and found his liver enzymes to be high. That indicated a liver problem. The next test we ran was a bile acid test which came back high also, indicating a liver function problem. And ultrasound was preformed next, to see the possible liver shunt. It was found on there. We put him on medications to help expel the toxins that his liver shunt doesn't allow him to.

Basically a liver shunt is a vessel that forms between the two veins that go in and out of the liver. Thus the blood flows through the normal vein to the vessel to the other normal vein. Therefore the liver is not getting the blood flow and not able to do its function, building up toxins in the body. This has caused him to be underweight (fixed currently) but recently started having seizures most likely due to this.

Fast forward to  this last two weeks. Teddy was doing so well until he started having seizures. We got a better image of his brain and liver to help determine long term care and what's causing the seizures. Nothing abnormal was in the brain, but his liver has one operable shunt. This would resolve many problems he currently has such as problems gaining weight, increased urination and thirst, and his seizures.

I've received  an estimate from my vet for the surgery. My goal is to raise as much as possible to reach the estimated cost.

This surgery change his and and my life. He can be a normal dog once it's fixed and have a longer life span. Teddy and I have become so bonded that's I can not imagine not having him or not getting the best care for him. He is my child! Unfortunately due to my career and schooling, I don't have the funds to do this on my own and do not feel comfortable putting this on a card. This is the best option I have at getting him the treatment. The sooner I can get this done the best it would be. The seizures can cause long term damage so the longer I wait the worst it could get.

Thank you so much for reading my story and possibly donating. If you have any questions or want to know more, please reach out.
