Ted & Melba Kullerd Memorial Fund

Ted and Melba Kullerd served greater southern Louisiana for more than 40 years through ministries of love, compassion and education. In January of 1974, they came to Morgan City, LA to accept a pastorate in a town and a surrounding area that had a population of less than 17,000. Faith Baptist Church was to be an independant missions minded ministry, recieving no support except from the community it served.
During that time, that area of the United States was booming with oil industry and very lucrative and the population grew. Bro. Ted and Mrs. Melba had the privilage of building and caring for a thriving and growing congregation. To meet the growing need in the community, they started a small Christian school.
In the early to mid 1980s, due to the import of foreign oil and increasing regulations, oil production ceased in south Louisiana. According to the Times Picayune, one in eight people were unemployed, but the greatest devestation was in the small bayou communities, such as Morgan City, LA. In these bayou communities one in four people were unemployed. Poverty was rampant.
Their congregation was cut in half and in half again as people moved to find work in other states. With only a handful of faithful people remaining at Faith Baptist, most people would have closed the doors. Instead Bro. Ted and Mrs. Melba poured themselves out into their community sharing their love and faith, even bring the homeless into their own home. They accepted children into their school that the public schools had rejected. Often these children had learning disabilities and emotional problems. They even accepted children and families who could not pay. These chidren were welcomed, loved, and educated with the rest of the students.
Even as they struggled to house and feed their three daughters, Bro. Ted and Mrs. Melba went into local area churches and provided music ministry and evangelism to help cement and grow those churches. Bro. Ted and Mrs. Melba felt that the love of Christ should not be restricted to Faith Baptist Church, but should reach out to help and support anyone or any ministry. This was true at any cost to them or their daughters.
In December of 2015, while undergoing chemo for multiple myeloma, Mrs. Melba developed Pneumona and spent almost twelve weeks in Intensive Care and Progressive Care Units. She was surrounded by her family at all times during that time. She went to be with Christ on March 16, 2016. Her family has struggled with extensive medical debts since then.
On August 9, 2017, Mrs. Melba's beloved husband of over 50 years had a massive stroke while at dinner with friends. Two days later, on August 11, 2017, in the Neuro Critical Care Unit, at Oschner Medical Center, he went home to be with his wife and Saviour.
Amidst their deep grief at the loss of both of their parents, Cheryl, Dana and Erin are asking that in lieu of any flowers or gifts that money be given to this fund to help pay for their parents medical and funeral expenses. They thank you for the love and compassion you will show to their family.
