Teaneck Lunch Debt

I was recently working at an event where people were able to take children’s clothing that were donated free of charge. At the end of the day, a school nurse walked in and said she was looking for extra clothing for her students. She said that when children came to her office for a change of clothing most of the time they kept the clothes because the families were in such need. She said there were over 125 children in her school on reduced price lunches. I asked her where she worked. She caught me off guard and said, “Teaneck”.

I‎t was a bit of a wake up call. We give to a lot of charities but we never thought about those struggling in our home town :(

This time of year our family thinks about where we would like to donate to. We called the the board of education and asked to pay off some school lunch debt. The woman from Maschio’s Food Services, who manages the school lunches, told me that there is upwards of $3000 worth of lunch debt from all of the schools.

Teaneck made us some pretty amazing people. Let’s give back and make the holidays a little easier for these families. Our name will not appear on this list because we’ve already donated but we can’t do this alone.

If you would like, you can give money directly to Maschio’s food services. Their office is located in Teaneck High School. You can contact Kristen Appel 201- [phone redacted].
